How to Wear an Ear Cuff Properly

We absolutely love ear cuffs and believe they’re a cool, stylish piece of jewelry that elevates your look and makes it truly unique. Ear cuffs aren’t the most common accessory, perhaps because people assume they’re uncomfortable to wear. And sometimes, that’s true.

However, the cuffs we make at The Flow Jewelry are thoughtfully designed and well-balanced. When worn and put on correctly, they’re very comfortable — you’ll barely feel them — and they’re nearly impossible to lose.

Below, you’ll see a diagram of the ear. Many ear cuffs are designed to be worn on the upper part of the ear in positions 1–2. We don’t make cuffs for those areas because they’re quite easy to knock off or lose.

From our perspective, the most comfortable and secure position for a cuff is location number 3.

So, how to put on an ear cuff comfortably?

Find the narrowest part of your ear. Once you’ve located it, you can gently open the cuff. Our cuffs are sturdy but flexible enough to be adjusted slightly — just enough to widen or tighten by a fraction of a millimeter. They’re not meant to bend easily; if they did, they’d be easier to lose or break. So it takes a bit of gentle pressure to adjust — but only slightly.

Open the cuff a little, and slide it onto the narrowest part of your ear. From there, move it into position number 3 on the picture — this is the area where the cuff will sit securely. It’s a broader part of the ear, but the cuff shouldn’t dig in or cause discomfort.

Once it’s in place, you can gently press the cuff to tighten it just enough so it stays put — again, without pressing into your ear.

That’s it! You’re ready to wear your ear cuff and enjoy it.

When it’s time to take it off, pull your ear slightly to narrow the shape and find the thinnest part again. You might need to open the cuff just a little — just like when you put it on — or you may find the perfect spot where the cuff slides off without any adjustment.
